Benefits of Drinking Organic, Raw, Whole Milk: the Real Deal in Dairy
Why you should insist on real dairy products as if your life depended on it — because it does
I was recently introduced to organic, raw, whole milk. I can't tell you how impressed I am with it. To me, it's one of the truly great foods available today.
More on Raw Milk:
Most of what's marketed as milk today clearly isn't worthy of a Real Seal.
- The dairy companies start with a product of really questionable value to begin with. Due to the factory-like conditions the cows are kept in, there are the dual deficiencies of stress hormones from the cows and all of the hormones and antibiotics used to increase production and keep the cows alive that make their way into the raw milk.
- If this wasn't nasty enough, the producers then take this "milk cocktail" and pasteurize it. This effectively kills the milk (rendering it more akin to toxic waste than a food) and destroys the CLA and protein bonds to the calcium and other minerals in the milk. The result is calcium that can't be absorbed by the body, and so encrusts cell membranes, creating health issues and preventing the absorption of other, bio-available calcium. (This is the main reason why studies have shown that calcium supplements are significantly more beneficial than the calcium you get from dairy.)
- Then, the cream is either skimmed off or pulverized into fat particles that are too small to be properly handled by the body (to homogenize it), and synthetic vitamins A and D are added to make it "healthy".
- And now, the FDA has ruled that milk (and meats) from cloned animals is as safe as milk from any other animal, and has issued preliminary approval for its sale. It could be in your supermarket as soon as 2008 — but you won't "see" it there, because the FDA has ruled that, since it is safe, food companies don't have to label it. You simply won't be told, so you won't have the option of making any informed choice.
As a result, what our grandparents knew as a healthy, strength-giving food has been turned into a product that nobody should use. (Pasteurized milk has even been linked to Parkinson's disease.) But, when your mother told you to drink your milk (because her mother told her to), there was some basis for that. You just need to start talking about — and drinking — the same milk.
Benefits of drinking organic, raw milk
With real milk, I'm aware of an energy lift just from holding a glass of it in my hand. When I drink it (or, more commonly, use it in/with other foods), it gives me a discernable sense of added strength. I've also found it very helpful in losing some extra weight. It's a great source of CLA, which helps with burning fat; but, I've also found that the superior nutrition from the milk decreases my appetite for junk foods.
If you have not tried organ, raw, whole milk before, I strongly encourage you to do so.
Finding real milk products
If you don't know of a source for organic, raw, whole milk and dairy products, you can find a listing of sources in Dr Mercola's book, Total Health Cookbook & Program, in The Maker's Diet, by Jordan Rubin and in The Body Ecology Diet by Donna Gates. You can also check at the A Campaign for Real Milk website (a project of the Weston A. Price Foundation).
Your access to raw milk is threatened
But, you should be aware that raw milk is getting harder to find. The forces that are bringing us Codex want your milk, as well, and government agencies are trying to remove raw milk from the market. This is the case in the US, as well as Canada, and is happening despite the fact that there have been no substantiated instances of people getting sick from this milk. It would seem that it's the governments' way of protecting the interests of Big-Agra (who can't produce raw milk safely, due to its ghastly production methods) at the expense of public health and health freedom.
You might also want to check out this Mercola.com page (www.mercola.com/2006/nov/16/federal-state-regulators-target-raw-milk-sources.htm) just for the video at the bottom. In it, Dr Rima Laibow, of HealthFreedomUSA, presents a great discussion of Codex. It's fairly lengthy, but worth watching. The point that really stood out to me is that, the very people who are proposing the Codex standards calculate that the first few years of implementing Codex world-wide will result in the deaths of countless people from starvation and nutritional-deficiency diseases.
