Celery Seed Essential Oil: Nature's Own Diuretic and Hepatic

Purging water from the fat cells and regeneration of the liver

Key constituents:

  • D-Limonene [60-75%]
  • Alpha and Beta Selinene [14-20%]
  • Sednenolide [4-7%]

ORAC: 30.300 μTE/100g

Celery seed (Apium graveolens) oil is extracted by steam distillation from dried seeds.  The plant is from the Apiaceae family (Umbelliferae — that is, from the carrot family), and has its origins predominantly in Europe (Hungary), but also China, India and the United States.  It is non-toxic and non-irritating.

Distillation yields an oil that is very high (60-75%) d-limonene, making it an excellent antioxidant.  Its actions are also anti-bacterial, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, anti-rheumatic, diuretic (see inset box), carminative (i.e.: helps to expel gas from the gut) and a stimulant.  It is also a digestive aid.

Celery seed oil is a natural diuretic of the liver.  It creates a purging effect by discharging the water out of the fat cells.

This is of particular importance in a liver cleanse program because fat cells hold a lot of water.  (That's why, when people go on a diet, they lose weight really fast.  In the beginning, the majority of what they are losing is water.)

By its diuretic action, celery seed oil expedites the releasing of water from the fat cells in the liver.  And since water is the agent for the transporting of chemicals and waste out of the liver, this also helps to remove toxins.

Celery seed oil has also been found to have liver-protective and liver-regenerating effects.  This, along with its diuretic activity, makes it an excellent oil for use in the liver clearing blend and the super liver clearing blend.

Traditional uses for Celery Seed Oil:

Celery seed oil has had a long history of use, and has been recognized historically as helpful in alleviating bladder and kidney complaints, as well as for liver cleansing, menstrual problems and digestive ailments.  It has also been used to increase milk flow in nursing mothers.

Its use is indicated for:

It's also a key part of the liver cleanse program.

Application of Celery Seed Oil:

Celery seed oil can be use "neat" (dilution is not required) and applied topically where needed.  Although there is some possibility of skin irritation, if this occurs, simply diluted 50-50 with a pure vegetable oil before use (or apply the vegetable oil to the irritated area to sooth).  It may also be added to food or rice milk as a dietary supplement or flavoring.

This oil should be used with caution during pregnancy.
