How to Perform the RainDrop Technique, Part 1.

Preparation and Performance of Steps 1 through 4

The RainDrop Technique is really quite simple to perform.  However, it's not quite so easy to adequately describe, even with illustrations.  The following is only a brief description of this aromatherapy application, and is an abridged version of what is found in the Essential Oils Desk Reference.  You shouldn't take this description as a complete instructional tool, but merely as an introductory look at the RainDrop Technique.

To fully understand the this powerful aromatherapy application, you should obtain a copy of the Essential Oils Desk Reference and the RainDrop Technique Video.

The Science & Application of Essential Oils Video also gives a partial demonstration of the RainDrop Technique, and includes a lot of other good information on aromatherapy applications.  I highly recommended them.

Preparation for the RainDrop Technique

Step 1: Applying the energy balancing blend to balance energies

  • Place 6-10 drops of the energy balancing blend into your non-dominant hand, then stir it in a clock-wise direction with the first two fingers of the dominant hand.  This raises the frequency of the oil and harmonizes it to you and the recipient.  Then apply the energy balancing blend to the soles of the recipient's feet with the dominant hand.

Step 1 of the RainDrop Technique: Holding feet to balance energy
  • Then place your hands as flat as possible on the bottoms of the recipient's feet, right hand to right foot, left hand to left foot, making as much contact as possible.  Then hold until balancing occurs.

This may take 5 minutes or longer.  This balancing is often felt as a kind of pulsing effect, both feet pulsing in unison, a heat exchange or a vibration.

Step 2: Dropping Oregano and Thyme along the spine and feathering them in

  • Hold the bottle about six inches above the skin and apply 5-6 drops each of oregano, and thyme, evenly spacing them along the spine, starting from the bottom (the sacrum) and working toward the top (the atlas).

Step 2 of the RainDrop Technique: Brushing strokes up spine.
  • Then, using the nail side of your fingertips, brush along the recipient's spine, from sacrum to atlas, with multiple, 4-inch feather-like strokes.  This can be done either with both hands together (as shown) or alternating between hands (which is preferred).

Do this for a total of three times.

Note: More is not better.

The essential oils of oregano and thyme are hot and very concentrated.  Applying too much of these oils can cause uncomfortable burning.

The conventional thought in aromatherapy is very critical of applying these oils without dilution.  However, tens of thousands of people have received this application without harm.  There is, in fact, considerable added benefit to applying these oil "neat", as is done in the RainDrop Technique.

But, if a burning sensation occurs, or you see a reddening of the skin, simply apply 5-10 drops of a pure vegetable oil over the affected area.  This allows the oregano and thyme to penetrate the skin — which occurs within seconds of application — yet reduces any discomfort to the recipient.

Step 3: Layering on basil, wintergreen, cypress, marjoram and peppermint oils

Holding the bottle about six inches above the skin, apply 4-6 drops each of basil, wintergreen, cypress, marjoram and peppermint oils, one at a time with the following application.

Step 3 of the RainDrop Technique: Flaring out brush strokes.
  • Repeat these feather-like brushing strokes; except this time, lightly flare the fingertips out towards the sides of the back as you work up the spine.

Step 4: Circular massage along the spine

  • Next, place both of your hands side-by-side on one side of the spine, and with the pads of your fingers, massage up the muscles along the spine in small clockwise circles, starting at the sacrum and working up to the atlas.
RainDrop Technique: Massaging along the spine

This exerts a gentle pushing and pulling along the spine, loosening the muscles, and subtly moving the spine in the direction it needs to go.

Note: Do not apply pressure directly to the spine.
