Essential Oils for First Aid Emergencies

Don't wash your windows without them

I'm so thankful to have therapeutic-grade essential oils on hand in case of emergencies.  You never know when they'll be needed.

Window washing blues

It's not a great idea to be removing panes of glass when you're alone in the house and no one knows what you're doing.  But, this morning, I was motivated to wash windows, and didn't think much about what could happen.

My windows are the type that swivel down so they can be popped out.  Well, while washing one of the window, for some reason, I took my hand off the glass after I unhooked the top, and the whole window fell on my head.

By some miracle, I received only one small cut on the back of my arm; but there was a small piece of glass, about a quarter of an inch, sticking out of the wound.  I pulled the glass out, and it turned out to be 2 inches long.

When the glass came out, blood sprayed everywhere.  When I saw all the blood, I really panicked, which caused the wound to bleed more profusely.

I knew the first thing I needed to do was to get control of my emotions.  While applying pressure with one hand, I grabbed by bottle of the tranquility blend and dumped several drops on my chest.  I just wanted to get some on me so I could inhale it.  Immediately I felt myself calming down.

Next, I needed something to help with the bleeding.  I applied an essential oil blend that helped control the bleeding until I could get medical attention.  (Anything with geranium and/or helichrysum in it would be good; or use the liver opening blend, the cardiac health blend, the Marseilles blend or the tea tree blend.)

I learned two lessons from this experience:

  1. I'll always have my first aid kit stocked with therapeutic-grade essential oils; and
  2. I'll never wash windows while I'm alone.
